Tudor, a prestigious Swiss watch brand, was founded in 1926 by Hans Wilsdorf, the same visionary behind Rolex. Wilsdorf established Tudor as a more accessible alternative to Rolex while maintaining the brand’s commitment to quality and precision. Tudor’s hallmark was offering luxury timepieces equipped with the same reliable technology as Rolex, but at a more affordable price point.
Initially, Tudor watches featured Swiss-made movements but were paired with cases and designs that showcased Rolex's influence. Over time, Tudor developed its own identity, focusing on robust and functional designs, particularly popular with military and diving professionals. The 1950s saw Tudor's first major success with the introduction of the Tudor Submariner, a direct competitor to Rolex's own dive watch. With its practical yet stylish approach, the Tudor Submariner became a beloved tool for divers and watch enthusiasts alike.
The brand continued to evolve, experimenting with innovative materials and movements, like its in-house calibre movements introduced in the 2000s. Throughout the decades, Tudor has maintained a reputation for quality craftsmanship, blending heritage with modern technology. In recent years, Tudor has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity, particularly with the re-release of iconic models like the Black Bay, which embodies the brand’s history of durability, design, and value.
Today, Tudor remains an important player in the Swiss watch industry, known for its high-performance watches, distinctive designs, and its connection to Rolex’s storied legacy
